Clay Road Bridge

Bridge Design & Construction Inspection

Location: Henrietta, NY
Owner:
Town of Henrietta

Lu Engineers provided preliminary design, final design, and construction inspection for this $1.8 million LAFA bridge project for the Town of Henrietta. Construction of the Clay Road Bridge provided a vital connection between the busy Jefferson Road corridor and Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road. The project included extensive coordination with utilities and CSX and included right-of way acquisitions, waterline relocations, sidewalks, and SEQRA permitting.

The objectives of this project were to:

  • Provide new bridge crossing over CSX tracks.
  • Improve the traffic flow through between NY 15A / Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road / Jefferson Road.
  • Reduce traffic congestion in the Route 15A corridor.
  • Provide complete pavement reconstruction.
  • Improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility, facilities and safety.

The chosen bridge alternative was a single span, multi-steel girder bridge supported by tall abutments (8.5 m) supported by steel H-piles. Flared wingwalls were used to minimize the length of the walls and reduce ROW acquisition. The new bridge utilized rolled steel sections and had a jointless bridge deck system. The new bridge carries a MS-23 live load. The new bridge provided vertical clearance between the railroad tracks and the bridge to meet CSX requirements.
