Environmental Site Assessment & Remediation

USAF RRS Newport Research Facility

Phase II EBS with Subsurface Investigation and Environmental Remediation

Location: Tanner Hill, NY
Owner:
United States Air Force

Lu Engineers conducted a Phase II Environmental Baseline Survey at Building 1605 at the Tanner Hill site of the Newport Research Facility in Herkimer County, NY. Previous testing indicated the existence of elevated levels of petroleum soil contamination in the area of a former underground storage tank. A remedial investigation was conducted to verify the nature and extent of subsurface contamination on site. A pilot test was conducted and a total fluids extraction remediation system was designed and installed on site for approximately three months. Lu Engineers provided permitting, maintained the remediation system, collected data and completed a report on the outcome of the project. The site cleanup was completed in three months, ahead of project schedule and under budget.

This project was completed under Lu Engineers' environmental term contract for the USAF Rome Research Site.
