Sampson Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery

As program manager, Lu Engineers acted on behalf of Seneca County leading the design and construction phases for the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The project converted a portion of the former Sampson Naval and Air Force Base into a veteran’s cemetery.
As program manager, Lu Engineers assisted the County in selecting the design consultants for the project. It was due to Lu Engineers guidance that the County chose to separate the two design contracts, one for the site work and the second for the architectural services. This saved the County $30,000 and provided a more efficient design process. By separating the two contracts, it allowed for smaller firms specializing in veteran cemeteries to submit proposals without seeking architectural firms to team with.
We provided oversight throughout the design process which included coordination between the design team, Seneca County and the Veterans committee, monitoring project schedule and budget, tracking the various funding source requirements which included DASNY and NYSDOT Multi-modal funds, and delivering a project that meets National Cemetery Guidelines.
Construction began in the Summer of 2010.
