Martin Farms
Agricultural Waste Storage Structure

Lu Engineers performed survey and design for a manure storage facility for a sixty cow dairy in Gorham, NY. The design of the manure storage structure was in accordance with USDA, NRCS Standard NY 313. Design included soil exploration and analysis. Lu Engineers prepared a cost estimate for the manure storage structure as well as the associated infrastructure requirements including a high tensile fence, driveway, a 30” HDPE pipe and a 4’ x 4’ catch basin for a manure transfer system.
The design of the storage lagoon included a Bentonite Liner, which was the first in Ontario County. The bentonite offered a cost savings to the farmer and provided an effective alternative to the traditional clay liner. Underdrain and geofabric were also installed to provide longevity to the BMP. A silt fence was recommended as an erosion control measure.
