Habitat Restoration Services

Conserving endangered and threatened species is essential to preserve our natural heritage for future generations and maintaining our quality of life.

Habitat restoration offers people a way to effect positive change in their communities – a change that enhances community pride and imparts a sense of stewardship of the environment.

Lu Engineers provides comprehensive planning, permitting, engineering and construction administration services for habitat restoration. Our staff of biologists, geologists, hydrologists, wetland specialists and civil engineers offer expertise in a wide range of terrestrial and aquatic habitats.

Wetlands: Wetlands are often the focus of habitat restoration problems because of their role in controlling runoff, water storage, controlling sediment loadings to surface waters, storing and releasing contaminants. Lu Engineers performs wetland studies, wetland delineation and mitigation in compliance with Federal and State regulations.

Water Quality: Protection and improvement in water quality is a critical component of habitat restoration. Biological resources are affected by sediments, nutrients, oxygen-demanding substances from natural sources and from wastewater treatment plants, and chemical pollutants. Our team of experienced ecologists provide the ability to evaluate the linkage between chemical stressors and biological resources.

Physical Habitat: Physical modifications to the environment can affect runoff, sediment loads, and the availability of nesting and foraging habitat. These changes alter the physical and chemical environment by exposing resident species to increased pollutant concentrations, higher suspended solids concentrations, and increased water temperatures. Lu Engineers provides hydrologic and biologic expertise in evaluating the significance of physical habitat modification and developing effective ecosystem restoration.
