Schreiberdale Farms,
Perry, NY
|
|

|
Lu
Engineers performed professional engineering and surveying services for
Schreiberdale Farms, a 700 cow dairy farm, in
Perry, NY.
Design and certification for various best management practices (BMPs) were
provided and done in accordance with USDA Natural Resource Conservation
Standards. The BMP included curtain drain, grass filter strip for high flows,
silage bunkers, and inspection and
certification of an existing earthen manure storage lagoon. Lu Engineers
also performed surveying services to prepare the base mapping and establish
existing contours, locate all physical features, and establish benchmarks to
be used during construction.

Agricultural Storage Structure, Greenview
Farm, Gorham,
NY
|

|
Lu
Engineers designed and provided construction inspection of the 1.0 million
gallon agricultural waste management facility for the Greenview dairy cow
farm in Gorham,
NY. The design of the agricultural waste
storage structure was in accordance with USDA Natural Resource Conservation
Service Standard NY 313. A pump station was designed and installed to
transfer the milkhouse waste into the storage facility. The existing septic
system was failing due to the large volume of milkhouse waste being generated
due to recent expansion of the dairy. An overall site plan with all physical
features, buildings and existing contours was provided.

Agricultural Waste Structure, Miller
Farm, Canandaigua,
NY
|
|

|
Lu Engineers designed and provided construction
inspection for the 1.5 million gallon agricultural waste management facility
for this Canandaigua New York dairy farm. The design of the agricultural
waste storage structure was in accordance with USDA Natural Resource
Conservation Service Standard NY 313. An overall site plan with all physical
features, buildings and existing contours was provided. As-built drawings
were also prepared. A closed drainage system was installed to collect silage
leachate from the existing tower silos and discharged to the waste storage
structure.

Fairbank Farms,
Asheville, NY
|

|
Lu Engineers provided engineering services to
Fairbank Farms in Ashville,
NY to develop and design a
wastewater treatment and conveyance system for handling 110,000 gpd of
slaughter house wastewater. The pretreatment system involved preliminary
screening and air flotation and pumping to the nearest municipal treatment
system. Pretreatment readily reduced the biological chemical oxygen demand
strengths from 1300 mg/l to 300 mg/l. The substantial decrease in BOD
strengths allowed the sewage to be pumped over long distances and
simultaneously reduce surcharge costs.

Apple Shed Farm Market,
Arcadia, NY
|

|
The Maple Ridge Fruit Farm and
Apple Shed is located in the Town of Arcadia
in Wayne
County. Lu Engineers assisted the
Apple Shed by designing a central chlorination system at the existing well
with the replacement of the existing pump to allow the system pressure to be
raised to 60 psi and yield better system recovery. A sanitary well seal was
installed to meet NYSDOH requirements and minimize chances of well contamination.
Lu Engineers also designed a pedestrian
crosswalk for the Apple Shed farm market. The farm market provides hay rides,
a haunted barn, and other farm activities during the fall season. These
activities are located across the street from the market. A crosswalk was
needed to allow the patrons to safely cross the busy county highway. Lu
Engineers provided the design and coordination with the County Highway department. Lu Engineers
helped the market order the solar beacons to be used at the crosswalk and to
have the County highway department fabricate and install the required traffic
signs. Lu Engineers also provided parking lot design and access control.
