Lu Engineers wins Softball TournamentLast night the Lu Sluggers, with a season record of 9-2 came from behind in the bottom of the 7th to beat the Labella Bombers (9-3) for a final score of 14-13. This was the final playoff game for a local softball league made up of a number of engineering and architectural firms in the Rochester area. |

Lu Engineers Staff Member AddedMichael Croteau has joined Lu Engineers as an environmental specialist. Michael will provide assistance to clients on asbestos, lead and mold projects. He is a Certified NYS Home Inspector. Michael has a B.S. from SUNY Brockport and lives in Rochester, N.Y.

Durand Eastman Park Beach Master Plan project featured in CEI NewsletterLu Engineers is the prime consultant on
the Durand Eastman Park Beach Master Plan, a project by the City of Rochester to
renovate Durand Eastman Beach and to improve water quality for the residents who
swim there. The project was recently featured in the Summer 2008 issue of
Sphere, a quarterly publication by the Center for Environmental Information.

Lu Engineers Staff Member Awarded Erosion and Sediment Control CertificationKenneth Hurley, CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control) with Lu Engineers, is now a recognized specialist in soil erosion and sediment control. The certification program, sponsored by the Soil and Water Conservation Society and the International Erosion Control Association provides the public with evidence of professional qualifications. Rules and regulations governing misuse of land and water resources and damages inflicted on others by erosion and sediment have been passed by federal, state and local governments. These regulations create a need for the services of professionals trained in proper erosion and sediment control methods.
Mr. Hurley has 22 years of experience and is a
Civil engineering project manager, designer and department supervisor with
diversified experience in municipal, residential, commercial and industrial land
development. |

Lu Engineers attends Economic Development and Business Showcase in Wayne CountyLu Engineers was represented at the Economic Development and Business Showcase in Wayne County on April 23, 2008. The showcase featured keynote speaker Daniel Gundersen, who was the former Commissioner of the NY Department of Economic Development and Co-Chairman of the Empire State Development Corporation, overseeing the Upstate Headquarters as well as eight regional economic development offices.

Lu Engineers adds New StaffMary C. Sperr is our new Marketing Director. Mary will be responsible for coordinating all business development, marketing, and promotional efforts for the firm. She received a BS degree in Management from Gannon University in Erie, PA, and has over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing. She is active in public service, serving as Town of Chili Councilwoman and as a member of the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce Board. Jon S. Becker has joined us as a GIS Analyst. Jon will provide assistance to clients on geographic information system projects including mapping and sign inventories. He was previously with Monroe County Real Property Services. Jon received a BS in Biological Science from SUNY Brockport and has over 13 years of related experience. He lives in North Chili, NY. |

Lu Engineers makes MUTCD presentation at Cornell Local Roads Training School Bob Hutteman, P.E., President along with Christine Crafts,
GIS Analyst, of Lu Engineers, recently made a presentation to a group of town
highway superintendents at the Cornell Local Roads Training School on April 10,
2008, regarding compliance with federal Manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices (MUTCD).
The Presentation focused on the recently completed Wayne County Sign Inventory and Engineering Evaluation Project. The result of this inventory project was the creation of a database of over 7,000 county traffic signs that has been integrated with the county’s existing GIS information. By utilizing the sign inventory database, Lu Engineers assisted the County in preparing an implementation plan and budget to have their signs in compliance with the newly adopted NYS MUTCD. The implementation plan and budget was prepared in less than four hours! |

Lu Engineers involved New York State Wetlands Forum Annual Conference and MeetingThe New York State Wetlands Forum, Inc. (NYSWF) held its annual conference and meeting in Waterloo, New York on April 9-11, 2008. Some of the topics included in the agenda covered invasive species, stream restoration, sustainable growth and various wetland issues such as mitigation, delineation and legislation. As a part of conference a distinguished panel of leaders gave a workshop on hydric soils. The panel, led by Fran Reese, Sr. Environmental Scientist and Wetland specialist with Lu Engineers with 22 years of experience was held at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Hydric soil indicators are an important factor in making wetland determinations under the new regional Wetland Delineation Manual. A field investigation of a soil toposequence featuring different parent materials and hydrology was included in the workshop. The workshop also demonstrated the new IRIS tube technology, which will be a first for Upstate New York. This technology is used to identify anaerobic conditions in soils. |
